How to buy an iPhone, console or other electronics on Vinted without getting caught out
To buy an iPhone, a console or other electronics on Vinted safely, pay only with the Buy now button, ask for photos of the real device, and check the lock status, serial number or IMEI and battery health the moment it arrives. Vinted gives you 2 calendar days to report a problem, so do not confirm the order before you have tested it.

Is it safe to buy an iPhone or a console on Vinted?
It can be, if you treat the purchase as a checklist rather than a bargain hunt. When we checked on October 21, 2026, Vinted's refund policy covered orders paid with the Buy now button, and a payment made outside Vinted's system was not covered. Inspecting the device is your job, and the clock is short. This guide is for buying a device for yourself.
Does Vinted check electronics before they reach you?
Sometimes, and not in every country. Vinted's Electronics Verification is an optional, paid service for buyers, offered on selected listings only.
In the US, we found no Electronics Verification page in Vinted's Help Center, so treat every electronics purchase as unverified and do the checks below yourself.
What to check in the listing before you pay
- Real photos. Vinted's rules say sellers must show the actual item and may not use photos they didn't take. Its photo guide asks for every side of the device, the screen on and off, the accessories, the box and any label with the model or serial number.
- Serial number or IMEI. On an iPhone these are in Settings, General, About, according to Apple. Ask for a screenshot with the middle digits covered, so you can match it to the box later without it being published in full.
- Battery health and SIM lock. Vinted says iPhone sellers select the battery health shown in the phone's settings, and that sellers mark a device Locked or Unlocked and name the network if locked. Ask for a screenshot.
- Account status. Ask in the Vinted chat whether the device is signed out of the seller's account. Apple says the Apple Account password is needed to turn off Find My or erase an iPhone. Ask the same about a console.
- Accessories and receipt. Ask what is in the box. Vinted says buyers may request a refund if a listing says accessories are included but they are missing.
What to check the moment it arrives
Do all of this inside the reporting window, and keep the packaging until any claim is resolved.
- Photograph the outer and inner packaging. Vinted asks for those photos when you claim.
- Switch it on and look for Activation Lock. Apple says that on iOS or iPadOS 15 or later, an iPhone protected by it shows an iPhone Locked to Owner screen, and that you should not take ownership of a used iPhone in that state. A passcode screen or Home Screen means it has not been erased, and a request for the previous owner's Apple Account during setup means it is still linked to them.
- Compare the model, storage and serial number or IMEI with the listing and the box. Apple has a coverage page at checkcoverage.apple.com where you can enter a serial number. We did not test what it returns for every device, so treat a mismatch as a question for the seller, not as proof.
- Open the battery health screen (Settings, Battery, Battery Health & Charging on an iPhone 14 or earlier, or Battery Health on an iPhone 15 or later) and compare it with the listing.
- Test the basics: charging, cameras, speakers, buttons, touchscreen and the SIM. Vinted says it is fine to check that something works, but not to use it a lot and then return it. On a console, also check that it is not tied to the seller's account.
- If anything is wrong, press I have an issue in the conversation. Do not accept the order first: Vinted says the payment then goes to the seller and refunds are no longer possible.
Scam signals on electronics listings
- Any request to pay or chat outside Vinted, which Vinted says to avoid, and which leaves the order unprotected.
- Pressure, such as urgent language, time limits or threats that an order will be canceled.
- Links, QR codes or emails. Vinted says its emails come from an address ending with @vinted.com. You can forward phishing emails to phishing@vinted.com.
- A listing far below comparable listings, with stock images or photos that do not match the description.
- A seller who will not show the Settings screen, the serial number or the lock status, or who asks you to confirm delivery early.
No single sign proves a scam. If you are caught out anyway, use Vinted's Contact us button with screenshots and the member's profile link.
Buyer protection and the deadline to report
Vinted's refund policy lets you request a refund if your order never shipped or is lost, arrived damaged, or is significantly not as described. You have 2 calendar days to report an issue, counted from when Vinted notifies you that the order should have been delivered or seems lost. Press I have an issue in the conversation and add photos of the item, the problem and the packaging. The Help Centres of the UK, the US and Australia all give the same 2 days.
An item that matches its description but does not suit you, minor differences, and an item used a lot after delivery are not covered.
Vinted Pro is not available in the US, so every seller is a standard member and the refund policy applies to every Buy now order.

Set an alert for the exact model and storage
- One alert per exact model. Put the full model name and the storage in the keywords, then add the condition you accept and a price ceiling that you set yourself after checking sold prices.
- Exclude the wrong listings: for parts, faulty, broken, cracked, iCloud, activation lock, blacklisted, case, empty box, box only, dummy. Be careful with locked, which also appears in unlocked: test what an exclusion hides.
- For consoles, name the exact model and edition, and exclude controller only and game only.
The set-up routine is in Vinted bot alerts, and how to find underpriced items on Vinted explains how to judge a listing against comparable ones.
What VTD BOT does, and what it does not
VTD BOT alerts you when a new listing matches your saved search, with an estimated value drawn from comparable listings and the real cost: price plus the Vinted fee plus shipping. Phones and consoles are not a ready-made niche, so you watch them with your own keywords, and the estimated value depends on how many comparable listings exist: check it yourself. See the features.
It cannot test a device, see a lock or judge a seller, so every check above stays yours. It never logs in to your Vinted account, never buys and never messages sellers, and it checks Vinted at regular intervals, not continuously.
Plans cost $9, $29 or $39 a month, with no free plan and no commitment. See the pricing.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to buy an iPhone on Vinted?
It can be if you pay with the Buy now button, which Vinted's refund policy covers, ask for real photos and the Settings screen, and check the lock status and battery health as soon as it arrives. You have 2 calendar days to report a problem.
Does Vinted verify electronics?
Only in some countries. On October 21, 2026, the UK Help Center described an optional paid Electronics Verification service, the Australian one said it was not yet available, and the US one did not describe it.
How do I check if a used iPhone from Vinted is locked?
Switch it on. Apple says an iPhone protected by Activation Lock shows an iPhone Locked to Owner screen on iOS 15 or later, and that setup asking for the previous owner's Apple Account means it is still linked.
How long do I have to report a problem with a Vinted order?
2 calendar days, counted from when Vinted notifies you that the order should have been delivered or seems lost.
