Vinted Buyer Protection explained: refunds, cover and deadlines in the US
Many guides still call it the Buyer Protection fee. Here is what the mandatory Vinted fee is, what the refund policy covers, the deadlines to respect and what is not covered, using Vinted's own pages.

One fee, several names
If you search for the Vinted Buyer Protection fee, you will find guides, forums and older Vinted pages that use that name. On the pages we checked on October 19, 2026, Vinted's own price list and help page call the charge the Vinted fee. Its Australian price list still uses the older name once, in the sentence that describes what is added at checkout, which suggests that the two names refer to the same charge.
The Vinted fee is a mandatory fee that the buyer pays at checkout on orders placed with the Buy now button. Vinted says it helps cover the cost of running and improving the platform, including connecting buyers and sellers, supporting a safer buying and selling experience, providing tools to manage transactions, member support, and applying its refund policy if an item is lost, damaged or significantly not as described when bought from a non-professional seller.
How much it is in the US
Vinted's price list says the fee typically combines a percentage of the item or bundle price with a fixed amount, and that the calculation varies with the item's characteristics, the order value and whether you buy a single item or a bundle. In the US that is usually 5% + $0.70. The fee is shown in the price breakdown of each listing and in the order summary.
We keep the full table, the worked examples and the sources on one page, so we do not duplicate them here: see Vinted fees in the US. Our own check of the listings is documented there too.
On top of the item price and the fee, the order total includes shipping. Vinted's integrated shipping options in the US are USPS, FedEx and SpeedX. Where sales tax applies, Vinted collects it and adds it to the order.
What the refund policy covers
The policy applies to all purchases made with the Buy now button. You can request a refund if your order:
- was never shipped or is lost,
- arrived damaged,
- is significantly not as described.
The policy lists more specific situations, among them an item missing from a bundle, an order reported delivered but never received, an order lost or damaged in transit, and an order returned to the sender. For lost orders, Vinted says the parcel may still arrive within 25 business days of being sent, and that it cannot start the investigation until the tracking shows the parcel seems lost or more than 25 business days have passed.
If the item is significantly not as described, the policy says the seller may offer a full or partial refund and let you keep the item, or you may have to return the item. Items confirmed counterfeit do not need to be returned. On a bundle, you only return the reported items, and partial refunds with the item kept are not available for bundle orders.
The deadline that matters most
You have 2 calendar days to report an issue and request a refund. The period starts when Vinted notifies you that the order should have been delivered or seems lost. You press I have an issue in the conversation screen. If you do not report an issue in time, or if you confirm that you accept the order, the payment is sent to the seller and Vinted says it cannot support you with a refund.
After you request a refund, the order is suspended and the payment is held until the issue is resolved. If the buyer and seller cannot agree, Vinted's support team reviews the case and decides what happens next.
What is not covered
- Payments outside Vinted. If you pay without the Buy now button, you are not covered and Vinted cannot help.
- An item you simply do not want. If it matches its description but does not fit or does not suit you, it is not eligible under the policy. You can ask the seller to accept a return, but it is their decision.
- Minor differences. Only items significantly not as described qualify. Differences that do not affect how the item looks or works do not.
- Items used or damaged after delivery. The policy says it is fine to check whether something fits or works, but not to use it a lot and then return it.
- Orders already completed. Once an order is accepted or no issue is reported in time, refunds are no longer possible.
Vinted Pro is not available in the US, so every seller is a standard member and the refund policy applies to every Buy now order.
What a refund includes
Vinted says a full refund, for an order confirmed lost, damaged or not received, includes the Vinted fee, the item price, the shipping fee you paid and applicable taxes. If you return a significantly-not-as-described item, you are refunded the item price and the Vinted fee for the returned items. Buyers pay for return shipping under Vinted's terms, unless the seller supplies a Vinted-generated return label, and the cost is deducted from the refund if you pay for it. Returns must be sent within 5 business days of the seller requesting them, in the same condition, with tags and accessories, and properly packaged.
Offers, discounts and coupons used at the time of purchase are already reflected: you are refunded only what you actually paid at checkout.
A buyer's checklist
- Use Ask seller to ask questions, and keep the conversation on Vinted.
- Pay with the Buy now button.
- Check the full price breakdown, not only the item price, before you confirm.
- When the parcel arrives, check it straight away, and photograph the packaging and the item if there is a problem.
- Press I have an issue inside the 2-day window rather than waiting.
If you are watching Vinted for good deals, a tool such as VTD BOT shows the net cost after the Vinted fee and shipping, so you compare like with like. Frequently asked questions
Is the Vinted Buyer Protection fee the same as the Vinted fee?
On the Vinted pages we checked on October 19, 2026, the charge paid by the buyer at checkout is called the Vinted fee, and the older Buyer Protection fee name still appears once in the Australian price list. Both describe the mandatory fee added to the order.
How long do I have to report a problem on Vinted?
You have 2 calendar days from the moment Vinted notifies you that the order should have been delivered or seems lost. Press I have an issue in the conversation screen. If you accept the order or do not report in time, the payment goes to the seller.
Does the Vinted refund policy cover items I don't like or that don't fit?
No. Vinted says an item that matches its description but doesn't fit or doesn't suit you is not eligible for a return or refund under the policy. The seller may agree to a return, but it is their decision.
What if I pay outside Vinted?
You are not covered and Vinted cannot support you. The refund policy applies to purchases made with the Buy now button.
Do I get the Vinted fee back if my order is refunded?
For a full refund of a lost, damaged or undelivered order, Vinted says the refund includes the Vinted fee, the item price, the shipping fee you paid and applicable taxes. For returned items that were significantly not as described, the fee for those items is refunded.
