Buy on Vinted, resell on eBay, Depop or Poshmark: the cross-platform playbook for the US
Cross-platform flipping means buying an item where it is listed cheaply and reselling it on another platform. This guide covers the costs, the platform rules and the tax questions, with every fee checked on the official page and dated.

Read this first: what Vinted allows
Vinted Pro is not available in the US, and Vinted's rules for vinted.com say that members can't sell as a business, on behalf of a business or with the goal of making a profit. Standard accounts can't be used to buy or source items and resell them at a profit. So this guide is about one thing only: buying on Vinted and reselling on other platforms. We do not describe, and do not recommend, reselling on Vinted for profit in the US.
There is a second thing to read. Vinted's user terms (the current version, which Vinted dates 08-10-2026) describe the user as someone who uses the services for personal benefit only and not for any professional purposes. Buying many items in order to resell them can sit awkwardly with that wording, and only Vinted can say how it applies to your account. We cannot tell you, so read the terms and decide with that in mind.
Every platform has its own rules and every country has its own tax rules. Nothing in this guide is legal or tax advice, and all figures below come from the official pages listed at the end, checked on October 19, 2026.
The idea, and its limit
The same item can be listed at different prices on different platforms, because the audiences, the search habits and the fee structures differ. Whether a particular item can be resold above its all-in cost is something only sold data can tell you, item by item. This guide does not claim that any category or brand is profitable.
Step 1: your all-in cost on Vinted
On vinted.com you pay the item price, the Vinted fee (usually 5% + $0.70) and shipping. On an item priced at $20 the fee is $1.70, so $21.70 before shipping. That total, plus shipping, is the number your resale has to beat. Our page on Vinted fees in the US has the full table.
Step 2: check what it really sells for
Look at sold prices, not asking prices. On eBay.com, the Advanced search page has a Sold items filter, and eBay says completed-listings results only include items that ended with a sale in the previous 90 days. eBay's Product research tool, available to sellers through Seller Hub, covers the last 3 years of sales data. Search with the same brand, model, size and condition as your item, and ignore listings that never sold.
Step 3: fees on the platform you resell on
These are the seller-side fees published by each platform on the day we checked. They change, so open the linked page before you decide. Fees on eBay and Depop are applied to a total that can include shipping and taxes, as described in the notes.
| Platform | What the seller pays (as published) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| eBay US | Final value fee of 13.6% on the total sale amount up to $7,500, plus $0.30 per order for orders of $10 or less and $0.40 above. The first 250 listings a month have no insertion fee, then $0.35 each. | Women's bags and handbags are 15% up to $2,000. Athletic shoes at $150 or more are 8%. The total sale amount includes shipping collected from the buyer and sales tax. |
| Depop US | No selling fee. Payment processing 3.3% + $0.45, charged on the item price plus shipping and taxes. Boosting fee 12% on Boosted Listings. | Buyers pay a Marketplace fee of up to 5% plus up to $1, excluding taxes and shipping. |
| Poshmark US | $2.95 flat on sales under $15. A 20% commission on sales of $15 or more. | Sellers in Texas see an extra Texas Seller Fee Tax deducted from earnings (since October 1, 2025). |
| Facebook Marketplace | Meta's Seller Protection Policy states a Selling Fee of 10% per transaction, minimum $0.80, calculated on the whole transaction including delivery fees and taxes. | It applies to sales processed through Marketplace checkout. Seller protection itself is, per the same page, available only in the US and for items of $500 or less. |
US figures. We did not verify Poshmark's buyer-side terms or its shipping prices, so we do not quote them.
A worked example (illustration only)
Take a made-up item, with round numbers. You buy it on Vinted for $20. The Vinted fee is $1.70, shipping to you is $5, so your cost is $26.70. You resell it for $45 and, to keep it simple, assume the buyer pays the shipping and you pass it on at cost. Fees on the $45 item price alone: eBay $6.52, Depop $1.94, Poshmark $9.00. That leaves about $11.78 on eBay, $16.36 on Depop and $9.30 on Poshmark before your own time, packaging, returns and tax. If you charge shipping, eBay and Depop also apply their percentage to it, and sales tax changes the base on eBay.
The point of the example is the method, not the result: all-in cost in, platform fees out, and a margin that must still cover returns, packaging and your time. Real items sell for what buyers pay, not for what an example says.
Step 4: rules, returns and shipping
- Authenticity. Vinted prohibits counterfeits and tells buyers to buy branded items only if the seller can reasonably prove authenticity. Vinted notes that selling counterfeit items is illegal, and the risk is yours, so be sure before you buy.
- Returns. eBay's Money Back Guarantee covers most transactions on eBay: buyers can get their money back if an item did not arrive, is faulty or damaged, or does not match the listing. Describe the item exactly as you received it.
Shipping. Each platform has its own labels and deadlines. Meta says that, under its Seller Protection Policy, dispatched items must use prepaid delivery labels issued by Meta and that sellers must send orders within seven calendar days.
Taxes: when selling stops being a wardrobe clear-out
The IRS says that whether or not you receive a Form 1099-K, you must report income from payments for goods you sell, including personal items such as clothing or furniture sold at a gain. It also says online marketplaces must send a Form 1099-K when payments exceed $20,000 across more than 200 transactions, but may send one with lower amounts. State rules and your own situation can differ, so ask a tax professional.
A workable routine
- Pick a narrow niche you can authenticate and describe accurately.
- Set up searches and alerts for it (see how VTD BOT works and the features).
- Work out the all-in cost and check sold prices before every purchase.
- Keep a record of every purchase, fee, sale and return. You will need it for tax anyway.
- Review monthly: drop what does not move, double down on what does.
VTD BOT helps with the watching and the first screening. It never buys for you, never connects to your Vinted account and does not list or resell anything. Plans and prices are on the pricing page. For the buyer side of the story, read how to find underpriced items on Vinted.
