Vinted Lego: how to buy used sets, check them and set alerts on vinted.com.au
To buy Lego on Vinted, search by set number, check that the listing shows the box, the instructions and every minifigure, and ask for photos of the real bricks before you pay. Complete sets are easier to judge than bulk bags, and an alert on the set number with excluded words such as compatible and incomplete saves you scrolling. We cover both, plus postage limits, scams and what VTD BOT does.

Where Lego sits on vinted.com.au, and what you will find
Vinted's Help Centre category menu (checked 21 October 2026) puts building toys in the Toys category, in a group called Building blocks & toys. The Toys menu also has a Toy figures & accessories group, so a loose minifigure may sit there.
Sellers choose the category, so build your alerts on keywords. You will mostly meet two cases:
| Complete set | Bulk lot (bags, tubs) | |
|---|---|---|
| What you can check | Part and minifigure counts, booklets and box, against the set number | Little: you judge a pile from photos |
| Main risk | Missing pieces or figures, swapped bricks, a box that does not match the contents | Mixed-in compatible bricks, dirty or damaged parts, a quantity you cannot check |
Set numbers: where to find them and how to search
LEGO's building instructions page says the set number is on the box and the online product page, and that its Builder app searches instructions for old and new sets by set number, theme or year (checked 21 October 2026).
Public catalogues such as BrickLink write a set number with a dash and a final digit, for example 12345-1 (a made-up number). Sellers rarely type the dash, so alert on the digits alone, and keep a second search with the theme and set name. Themes to combine include City, Technic, Star Wars, Ninjago, Friends and Duplo, all listed on LEGO's own site (checked 21 October 2026).
A keyword alert only matches words the seller typed, so a number that appears only in a photo will not be found.
How to check that a used set is complete
Vinted's page on "significantly not as described" items (checked 21 October 2026) counts missing parts that the listing did not mention, bundles with items missing and unshown flaws. Those are your grounds if a set arrives short, so make the listing specific first.
- Look up the numbers. The BrickLink set entry we opened lists the parts, minifigures, box weight and instruction booklets. A community catalogue is a guide to cross-check, not proof.
- Ask for written confirmation. "Complete and counted against the instructions" is a statement you can point to later, with a photo of each minifigure.
- Non-official bricks. Vinted's community standards do not allow counterfeits, replicas or imitations of branded products. "Compatible" in a listing means the bricks are not Lego: for genuine bricks, exclude the word and look for the logo on the studs.
LEGO's replacement parts page (UK site, checked 21 October 2026) offers a missing-piece request for a new set and a place to buy pieces. Check its conditions before counting on it for a second-hand set.
Sealed boxes, opened boxes and built sets
Vinted's condition guide (checked 21 October 2026) defines New as brand-new, unused and unopened in its original packaging, and Like new as brand-new and unused but opened or without its original packaging.
So New should mean a sealed box: ask for every side, the tape and the seals. A photo cannot prove a box was never opened, so "sealed" is the seller's claim. For Like new, ask whether the inner bags are still sealed, and for a built set, whether it was ever mixed with other bricks.
Weight and postage for Lego sets
Vinted's shipping pages (checked 21 October 2026) say that rates depend on package size and on both locations, that the buyer pays and sees the total at checkout, that each carrier has exact size and weight limits, and that an item over the maximum cannot be listed. Some carriers cannot ship larger packages.
- Check the weight of the set. The BrickLink entry we opened lists a large train set at just over 3 kg.
- Use bundles. Vinted says one bundle order can hold up to 100 items and that bundling can cut shipping costs.
- Read the total. Add the Vinted fee (usually 5% + A$1.20 according to the price list, and 5% + A$1.00 on the listings we checked) and postage before you decide.
Vinted lists Australia Post as the integrated provider. Only items of 2 kg or less can be traded between Australia and the UK, and Vinted prohibits children's products and toys between them (International transactions policy, checked 21 October 2026).
Alerts for Lego sets and themes
A set number is the strongest search term. Pair it with excluded words, and keep a looser backup search in case a good listing uses none of your words.
| Goal | Include | Exclude |
|---|---|---|
| One named set | the set number digits, and the set name | compatible, incomplete, clone, instructions only |
| Sealed sets in a theme | the theme, sealed or new, set | opened, built, incomplete, compatible |
| Minifigures | minifigure, the theme or character | compatible, custom, clone |
Examples to adapt. An excluded word also removes honest listings that use it, such as "nothing missing".
Choose the price ceiling yourself. See Vinted alerts: how to get notified of new listings and how to find underpriced items on Vinted.
Scams and buyer protection when you buy Lego
- Pay with Buy now and stay on Vinted. The refund policy covers purchases made with the Buy now button, and the scam page warns against moving the conversation or payment elsewhere (checked 21 October 2026).
- Report within 2 calendar days. After Vinted notifies you that the order should have been delivered or seems lost, you have 2 calendar days to press I have an issue. After that, the payment goes to the seller.
- Photograph the contents. A set short of parts, a bundle with items missing and a counterfeit are all "significantly not as described" cases. Photograph the contents as you open the box, and keep the packaging.
- Be wary of items the seller does not hold. Vinted does not allow listings for items that "can be ordered", meaning items the seller does not currently own (commercial selling page). Stock photos and no picture of the real box are a warning sign.
Wording for your questions is in Vinted message templates and offers; fees and refunds are in Vinted fees and buyer protection explained.
Buying Lego to resell: what Vinted's rules say
Vinted's commercial selling page for Australia says the Pro programme is not currently available there and that members cannot sell as a business or to make a profit. It also says you cannot sell new items bought specifically to resell (checked 21 October 2026). We do not recommend reselling on Vinted for profit in Australia.
For selling on another platform, see buying on Vinted and reselling elsewhere and follow each marketplace's rules.
What VTD BOT does for Lego searches
VTD BOT is an independent alert tool, not affiliated with Vinted. You save a search with keywords, condition, a price ceiling and excluded words, and it alerts you by push notification, sound or email when a listing matches. Toys are not a standard niche, so you follow sets with your own keywords.
Each match shows an estimated value from comparable listings and the real cost with the Vinted fee and postage. The estimate can be missing for a particular set when few comparable listings exist, so check it yourself.
VTD BOT never logs in to your Vinted account, never buys and never messages sellers. It checks Vinted at regular intervals and not continuously, so a popular set can be gone when an alert arrives.
There is no free plan. Starter is A$15 a month for 1 search with alerts, Plus is A$45 for 10 searches and Pro is A$59 for unlimited searches, with lower monthly prices when billed yearly. See the pricing and the features.
Frequently asked questions
How do I search for a Lego set on Vinted?
Use the set number from the box or the product page of LEGO's site, and search the digits without the dash. Keep a second search with the theme and the set name.
How do I know a used Lego set is complete?
You cannot be sure from the listing alone. Compare the part and minifigure counts in a catalogue with the instructions, ask the seller to confirm in writing, and ask for photos of the minifigures.
Is there a Vinted bot for Lego?
Alert tools can watch Vinted for a set number or a theme, and tools that log in and buy for you exist too. Vinted's terms (version dated 08-10-2026, checked 21 October 2026) restrict external software tools, bots included, unless Vinted allows the use. VTD BOT only sends alerts.
