Vinted designer bags: how to search, check authenticity and buy safely on vinted.co.uk
To buy a designer bag on vinted.co.uk, search by brand and bag name, narrow with the filters, and ask the seller for the serial or date code, the inner label, close-ups of the hardware and any proof of purchase before you press Buy now. Vinted's optional Item Verification can check authenticity, but the Help Centre pages we read on 25 October 2026 showed it on sale in the UK only. Elsewhere, and on listings without a diamond badge, the checks are yours.

How do you find designer bags on Vinted?
Sellers file bags under the Designer menu or the ordinary bag groups, so search the whole catalogue. On vinted.co.uk, viewed without logging in on 25 October 2026, the Designer menu had a women's Designer bags group and, for men, shoes, accessories and clothing. Women also has a Bags section (Handbags, Shoulder bags, Tote bags, Clutches and more), and men's bags sit under Accessories. The filters were Category, Size, Brand, Condition, Colour, Price and Material, plus Sort by.
- Brand, bag name, colour. Vinted's own example search is four words long, so start there and drop a word if results run thin. Run common spellings as separate searches, and sort by Newest first (Vinted search tips).
- Condition and price. Choose the lowest condition you would accept and set your own ceiling after checking sold prices. An asking price, high or low, proves nothing about authenticity.
What should you ask the seller before you buy?
Vinted asks sellers for at least three close-ups of different details. For handbags and backpacks its list is the outer logo, stitching, the box or dust bag, the serial number (for luxury brands), heat-stamped marks or engravings on zip pulls, fasteners and the inside, the receipt or price tag, and the inner label. A seller who will not show these is telling you something.
- Proof of purchase: a receipt or invoice, a certificate of authenticity or the original packaging, with personal details covered.
- Code and label: a sharp photo of the serial or date code and the inner label, taken on this bag.
- Hardware and condition: close-ups of zip pulls, clasps, seams, corners and lining, any smells, and the dimensions, which Vinted's buying guide says to double-check.
- History: where and when it was bought. Keep the chat inside Vinted.
Vinted bans disclaimers such as not sure if authentic and tells buyers to buy branded items only if the seller can reasonably prove authenticity.
How do you check that a designer bag is authentic?
Vinted says all counterfeit items are strictly prohibited, even when the seller openly says so, and asks for proof of authenticity on luxury items, hiding or deleting listings without it.
No photo check can certify a bag, and we cite no forum posts or brand-by-brand tells. To lower the risk:
- Compare the photos with the brand's own page for the same bag: shape, label position, hardware finish, stitching.
- Read how the brand describes its codes on its own site, if it does. We have not tested whether any brand confirms authenticity for buyers.
- Check that all photos show the same bag, with the code and label readable.
- On arrival, compare the lining, smell, weight and hardware with the photos before you press Everything is OK.
Independent authentication services exist outside Vinted; we have not tested any.
Does Vinted authenticate designer bags?
Yes, on selected listings. Item Verification is an optional paid service. A listing qualifies if it meets a minimum price set by Vinted, is from a brand on Vinted's eligible list and is in clothing, bags, accessories, jewellery or shoes; it shows a diamond badge. The seller sends the bag to a Vinted hub, where experts usually check authenticity within 1 to 2 business days. If it passes, it arrives with a hangtag and a digital report. If it fails, it goes back to the seller and you get a full refund of the service, the Vinted fee and shipping. It checks authenticity, not condition, and Vinted's terms describe commercially reasonable efforts, not a guarantee.

What if the bag is not as described or turns out to be fake?
Buy now keeps you inside Vinted's refund policy; a payment outside it is not covered. You have 2 calendar days from Vinted's delivery notice to press I have an issue, and if you accept the order or the time runs out, the payment goes to the seller. Inspect the bag on the day it arrives.
A counterfeit, an unshown flaw, a wrong colour and missing parts that the listing did not mention are significantly not as described. Add photos of the bag, the issue and the outer and inner packaging. Items confirmed counterfeit do not need to be returned to receive a refund, says the refund policy page.
In a counterfeit claim, Vinted's user terms (applicable from 8 October 2026) say it may investigate. With strong evidence, the seller has 48 hours to show the item is authentic. If the evidence is not enough either way, the transaction is cancelled and you return the item at your own cost unless agreed otherwise.
A bag that matches its listing but does not suit you is not covered.

Red flags on designer bag listings
- Any request to pay or chat outside Vinted.
- Pressure, such as time limits or threats that an order will be cancelled.
- Borrowed photos, or a seller who cannot show the code, label or hardware.
- Wording Vinted bans, such as inspired by, or a line saying the seller is not sure the bag is authentic.
- A bag the seller does not hold. Vinted bans listings for items that can be ordered.

How do you set alerts for designer bags?
Vinted's saved searches show a counter of new listings when you open the search bar, and the Help Centre describes no push or email alert for them, so for a rare bag you either open the app often or use an alert tool.

Are designer bags on Vinted real?
Some may not be. Vinted bans counterfeits but publishes no figure for how many listings are fake, so check each bag: ask for the serial or date code, the inner label, hardware close-ups and proof of purchase, and pay only with Buy now.
Does Vinted authenticate designer bags?
Only where Item Verification is on sale, on selected listings with a diamond badge. On 25 October 2026 that meant the UK, at £10 per item: the US and Australian pages said the launch date would be communicated.
What if I receive a fake designer bag from Vinted?
Press I have an issue within 2 calendar days of Vinted's delivery notice, with photos of the bag, the issue and the packaging. If the evidence is strong, the seller has 48 hours to show the bag is authentic, or the transaction is cancelled and you need not return it.
How do I check a serial number or date code on a Vinted bag?
Ask the seller for a sharp photo of it on the bag, then read how the brand describes its codes on its own site. A code in the right format is not proof.
Can I return a designer bag on Vinted if I change my mind?
Not under the refund policy, which excludes an item that matches its listing but does not suit you. You can ask the seller to accept a return, but it is their decision.
